The wild mushroom artist Peter Thwaites...Peter Thwaites

auf deutsch
Champignons aquarelles et cartes de salutations par Peter Thwaites

Peter Thwaites is an artist of growing reputation, with his natural history portfolio painted predominantly in watercolours. During his early years in Cornwall, Peter used the medium of painting and drawing to record the natural world and his paintings of mushrooms and toadstools were exhibited at the Royal Institution in Truro..

This website features mainly the collection of fungi paintings which continues to grow with each autumn season. He works only from live specimens which are usually painted life size. With his eye and skill to depict detail, these paintings bring the beauty and amazing sculpture of the mushroom world to life.

He has exhibited at the Royal Watercolour Society's C21 exhibition at the Bankside Gallery in London and at the International ArtExpo in Atlanta, Georgia. In 2005 he was commissioned by the British Mycological Society to illustrate their new Pocket Guide to Common Fungi and in 2008 a Common Fungi Poster

fungiforfun.co.uk ™ was set up by his wife, Christine, with a view to bringing these fine paintings to a wider public. She designed and maintains the website and deals with the printing side of the business and all enquiries. She has also brought together mushroom furniture making and studio glass mushrooms and added book sections for mushroom identity, cooking and general interest.

There are many websites devoted to the subject of mushrooms, toadstools and fungi some favourites are featured on the mushroom links page.

.... "Fungi, mushrooms, toadstools all have an amazingly beautiful, delicate yet strong structure and we wanted to share our enthusiasm and appreciation of the fungi world. We have not aimed at scientific or medicinal aspects - merely beauty and fascination. We hope you will enjoy your visit. We hope constantly to add to the site." ............Peter and Christine Thwaites

News: A new website featuring Peter's landscape, seascape and large botanical paintings in both watercolour and acrylic is now online at www.peterthwaitesfineart.com .....Christine Thwaites
